11 oktober Panel & Performance by Linn Da Quebrada

On Thursday, October 11th Subbacultcha organises with IQMF and TranScreen in OT301 a program with a spectacular performance by Brasilian queer performer Linn Da Quebrada. Before this performance, there will be a debate with Linn and several panel members from the network of IQMF and TranScreen at 19 o’clock. This panel is free of charge and on donation basis. The full program will be announced shortly, but tickets are already available on this website.

Hailing from the favelas of São Paulo, Linn makes music that’s both visceral and celebratory, fighting to make the queer community of Brazil more visible. Linn’s sociopolitical message is being dispersed in a club-ready package, mixing styles of baile funk, hip hop and electronic music. Linn lately released the audiovisual album ‘Pajubá‘ – which she labeled as Beyonce’s Lemonade for Brazil’s queer femmes -, starred in the documentary Tranny Fag and toured throughout Europe. It’s not everyday that we encounter an activist/rapper/singer/actor who makes music that is intellectual, joyous and boundary-pushing.

Linn’s meest recente audiovisuele album is ‘Pajubá’. Daarnaast was ze te zien in de veel geprezen documentaire Tranny Fag. Een activist, rapper, zangeres en actrice die intellectuele, vrolijke en grensverleggende muziek maakt.

TranScreen Goes Cavia presents Evening Shadows

TranScreen is delighted to present the film Evening Shadows by Sridhar Rangayan & Team, 2018, India, 102min

And even more delighted that director Sridhar Rangayan will be present at the screening for a Q&A.

In a small town in Southern India that lives within a cocoon of traditions and social morality, when a young gay man Kartik, comes out to his mother Vasudha, her entire world comes crashing down. She has no one to turn to dispel her fears and doubts, to understand her loving son’s truth. Moreover, as a woman, trapped within a patriarchal conservative society, her biggest challenge is to deal with her dogmatic husband Damodar, and the conservative society around her. ‘Evening Shadows’ is a universal story about a mother-son bonding and its emotional strength to withstand the ravages of time and harsh realities.

The film is set on the eve of Supreme Court’s reversal of the judgment of the anti-sodomy law Sec 377 in 2013 which endangered thousands of young LGBTQ persons in India. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code dating back to 1861, introduced during the British rule of India, criminalizes sexual activities against the order of nature, including homosexual sexual activities. Just a few weeks ago on 6th of September 2018, the Supreme Court overturned its own 2013 decision and read down Section 377, thereby decriminalizing same-sex consensual relationships between adults. It was a big day of celebration for all the activists who fought against Section 377 and for the entire LGBTQ community.

Who will Fuck Daddy, 2015-65 min, Lasse Langstrom

A hypnotic, intensely personal film featuring a mix of mysterious and mystical images: a masturbating moon, a couple having sex in a tent filled with balloons and electric lights, a pair of vibrators hidden in a head of lettuce. Beautifully episodic, Who Will Fuck Daddy? switches from documentary sequences about parenthood, gender, ecstasy, and rebirth, to cruising sites in the Swedish forest, to the question of just how much pressure to put on a pair of nipples. Lasse Långström’s latest work is as political as ever with an underlying theme of the death of heteronormativity and homonationalism and a wide variety of bodies on show.
